One of the most common causes of back pain is from performing activities you're not used to, such as gardening and yard work, and heavy lifting.
Back Pain Relief
Rest your back and discontinue whatever activity is causing the pain. Soak in a hot bath with Epsom salts (typically 1 cup is recommended). If your back muscles spasm, try using an ice pack. Lie on your back (preferably with pillows under your knees) with a hot water bottle or heating pad. Exercise helps to get your back muscles in better shape. Stretch your back by doing yoga stretches - this also can help improve your posture over time. Non-prescription pain medicine (i.e. ibuprofen) is known to help decrease inflammation and reduce back pain. Book a massage or reflexology session. Visit your chiropractor. Visit an alternative medicine practitioner. See your doctor if the back pain persists, changes, or refers into your legs. © Copyright, Sylvia Carlson 2006. Reproduction without permission prohibited.
