Relax to the Max

This week, I welcome my guest, Eric Brown of Relax to the Max, a chair massage school offering classes throughout Canada as well as intensive training programs for out of country students.

Why should prospective students of massage choose your massage school or program to train as a massage therapist or massage practitioner?

Relax to the Max offers a convenient and affordable alternative to traditional massage training. There’s really nothing like this in North America.

What type of massage therapy do you teach at your massage school, and can you give a brief definition and background on this particular type of massage technique?

We specialize in chair massage, also known as seated massage or on-site massage. It’s a relatively new method of massage that’s done primarily to key tension areas in the back, neck and shoulders. It’s performed in a specially designed chair and is done over the clothing. The chairs are portable so that the service is brought to your home, workplace or event. This is the kind of massage that people commonly think of as workplace massage or office massage. If your listeners want to find out more about the history of this type of massage and find out what makes it so unique, I’d suggest they visit chairmassagertraining.com and listen to the audio files that are posted online.

What makes your massage school different than the rest?

Relax to the Max is the only school in North America that offers entry-level training in chair massage. Many massage therapists learn how to do chair massage in short continuing education courses after graduating from massage school.

The comprehensive program at Relax to the Max teaches people with no previous massage training how to do chair massage as a career. You don’t have to be a massage therapist and you don’t have to learn how to do traditional Swedish massage or table massage to take this course.

As a result, we’ve had students from around the world travel to Canada to take the program, as far away as Australia and the Middle East. We provide short, two-week learning vacations for people who don’t live near one of our training centers.

How long is your massage program and what kind of commitment is required?

The chair massage training program is essentially ten days of in-class instruction, combined with home study and documented massage practice that must be done on the students’ own time. We use a highly accelerated training method to provide people with the necessary skills they need to do this as a career. The program also includes business training through our association with www.bodyworkbiz.com, as well as a variety of support services to help ensure graduates will be successful if pursuing this as a business.

What educational prerequisite is required for admittance to your massage school?

Students should have basic high school education. Foreign students must have good command of the English language. No previous background in massage is required.

And finally, in your opinion, what makes a good massage therapist or massage practitioner?

A good therapist or practitioner is one who is client-focused – who always is looking out for the best interests of their clients and who is striving to meet their needs. At Relax to the Max, we don’t believe that knowing the names, insertions, origins, and actions of over 600 muscles is necessarily going to make you a good practitioner. We focus much more on the client experience and want to ensure that every person who receives a massage has their needs met in the best way possible in a safe and caring environment.

Thanks, Eric.
