Deep tissue massage therapy is a therapeutic massage which can relieve the pain and discomfort caused by specific medical problems.
The deep tissue massage technique is a massage technique which is designed to realign the deep muscle layers and connecting tissues in painful, stiff joints. The massage treatment can cause some initial discomfort, but this usually fades within 24 hours. There are a variety of different types of medical problems which deep tissue massage can have an impact on, for example:
What is a Deep Tissue Massage?A deep tissue massage is an extremely slow massage technique, which works to relieve the pain and the muscular tension which is caused by stiff muscle tissue in and surrounding the tendons, muscles, and ligaments. Stiff or painful muscle tissue can be a contributing factor in causing inflammation and painful joints, however a trained massage therapist can use a course of deep tissue massages to bring back the normal joint movement. Other massage techniques can be utilised to help people to relax, but deep tissue massage techniques specifically are much more intense, and the therapist will use slower, deeper pressure, which is centred on the problem areas. This deep muscle massage compresses the muscles, and make the use of friction to increase blood flow. It is a very effective method of pain relief especially for sports realted injuries. A deep tissue massage can initially be quite uncomfortable, but it should never be so uncomfortable that it is actually painful. If it does cause pain during the massage, then the therapist should be told to stop immediately. When it is Not Recommended to have a Deep Tissue MassageThere are certain times when a deep tissue massage is not recommended, these times are: · When a person is pregnant · If an individual has heart disease · When a person has osteoporosis · If the joint to be manipulated has recently been broken · Immediately following an operation · If a person has a rash or a viral infection · If the individual is suffering from a hernia or a tumor · If the area to be manipulated has an open wound or bruising Deep tissue massage techniques have been proven to be more effective in giving pain relief than other methods, such as acupuncture, some prescription medication, exercise, or physiotherapy. Usually the improvements made by deep tissue massages can be noticed immediately following treatment. Deep tissue massage is a highly effective method of massage therapy, which relieves pain and tension in the muscles and surrounding areas by using deep, slow pressured movements and friction to stimulate blood flow to the affected areas.
