If you are looking for a massage therapist, you might find this checklist useful before you begin your search.

Finding the Right Massage Therapist

What I really believe is that you will end up where you need to be. Many times I found a massage therapist at the right time for the right reason. Other times I found the wrong massage therapist for the right reason. You will go where you are lead, whether that is by word-of-mouth, referral from a physician, an ad you saw that really stuck out for you, or simply from your own research of massage therapists and massage practitioners in your area.

If you really want to be methodical about it all, you can:

  • ask all your friends and family for massage therapyreferrals;
  • learn all you can about different types of massage to see which one best suit your needs;
  • talk to a few massage therapists before committing to a massage appointment;
  • always ask if the massage therapist has dealt with the health problem or health condition you are seeking help for. If the massage therapist has never worked with that particular health condition, I would move on until I found someone more experienced, so you know you're in good hands;
  • if you do not feel comfortable with your massage therapist, it's okay to acknowledge this and find yourself another one; however, it does take a few visits until you can really relax;
  • ask a lot of questions until you are satisfied that you found the right massage therapist for you.

It is important to remember that not everything can be resolved through massage, so you may have to try another form of alternative health treatment.

Remember, it is your body and your health, so be proactive in seeking out the best possible care.
