Massage therapy promotes some surprising health and wellness benefits which most people would never otherwise associate with this form of therapy.

Anyone who has experienced a massage knows of the benefits to the body. Those fortunate enough to receive regular treatments know that these benefits can extend beyond those aspects one normally associates with the stimulation and relaxation brought on by myomassology. This article focuses on these health and wellness benefits which improve mood, lower stress, and relieve other emotional stressors, as explained to the author by a certified massage therapist.

Massage Therapy Balances Mood

Massage treatment promotes blood flow to all parts of the body and all its organs, including the brain. This increased blood flow leads to better overall function, including those processes which maintain the chemical balance that affects an individual's mood.

Massage Therapy Decreases Stress

Anyone who has enjoyed the relaxing experience of a massage usually relates the feeling to a "mini vacation." Indeed, the stimulation and relaxation of the muscles release endorphins, and provide a natural "high" to the recipient. The feeling reduces stress and emotional pressures.

Massage Therapy Promotes Self Esteem

Most people visit a massage therapist for the physical benefits provided. This therapy can provide emotional benefits as well. Regular sessions of massage therapy offer an opportunity for the recipient to reassign body image. A well-trained myomassologist advises a client that a body is more than a collection of flesh. Rather than examining a "flabby leg" or a "droopy arm," a myomassologist looks at a whole person, and projects that perspective on her clients. Looking at the body and the person in this manner is critical in order to measure improvement over time, and share positive results.

Massage Therapy Decreases Anxiety

People suffer from a number of different types of anxiety, and massage therapy provides different benefits to each. Regular sessions can greatly assist some individuals in overcoming specific fears. Facing a fear of human contact and/or human touch are obvious examples; however, massage recipients can overcome other fears through the meditative process provided with regular sessions. Please note that mental health professionals are needed and should be consulted to assist through these processes.

Massage Therapy Relieves PMS

Believe it or not, massage therapy stimulates a woman's body in a way that relieves premenstrual syndrome. As stated above, massage can relax the body and provide a balance to brain function, particularly that which balances hormones throughout the body. In addition, this stimulation and relaxation of massage relieves cramps and headaches by releasing endorphins.

Depending on your current level of health, the amount of treatment you should receive to enjoy these benefits may differ. Those who are very healthy might enjoy these benefits in as little as one treatment per month. Others looking to greatly improve these areas may only see improvements with weekly sessions. Those with particular physical issues which require additional care or looking to recover from various health ailments might require even more frequent treatments to most fully enjoy these benefits.
