Massage Therapy FAQ's

COST

I have seen massage therapy advertised anywhere from $20 to $200 per visit. On average, you will pay $1.00 per minute, so you can expect to pay $30 for ½ hour or $60 for 1 hour.

INSURANCE

Because there is no consistent massage therapy standard or regulation across Canada and the U.S., you will find that insurance coverage, including auto insurance, will vary from province to province and from state to state. Massage therapy is typically covered by extended healthcare plans, although most of these plans will vary in the actual amount to be covered.

In North America, reflexology is not typically covered under extended health care plans, although you may be able to have it receipted under massage therapy or an alternative health practice.

TREATMENT LOCATION

Massage table - typically very comfortable

Massage chair - also comfy; typically seen in malls, trade shows or offices

Reflexology chair - like a comfy lounge chair

Reclining chair - could be your favourite recliner

Mat on the floor - typically oriental-style massage

In some cases, your massage therapist can adapt the location to your needs (i.e. if someone you know is confined in a hospital or nursing home).
