It always amazes me how massage therapy is almost overlooked in the healthcare field. I checked out a number of organizations dealing with stroke and the recovery from stroke, and massage was not even mentioned, despite the fact that massage is one of the oldest healing modalities.
I assisted a number of people recovering from paralysis and pain. What massage therapy can do is help bring back circulation to areas that are in need of more nutrients and blood flow and massage can also promote the release of endorphins that can help in pain control.
The effects of a stroke are numerous, and one of the simplest ways of helping someone is with the touch of your hand. A few minutes of massage can do a lot of good.
