What Does Holistic Mean?

People sometimes associate the term, holistic, as somehow new age or airy fairy. I see it as a belief and philosophy, not only about health, but about the world.

Holistic medicine treats the person as a whole with the belief that there is communication between the mind and body. It emphasizes the individual's active participation in their own health and wellness through lifestyle choices such as a good diet, exercise or stress management techniques.

Holistic health is the philosophy of wellness. People who follow this philosophy typically utilize a number of alternative health practices, such as: acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathy, massage therapy, yoga, aromatherapy, and homeopathy to name a few.
