Intersting article, Sylvia; thank you. happy
I'm wondering if different types of massage have differential effects on us, such as, does Hot Stone give us more clarity of thought, or deep-tissue make us more relaxed? Just curious.

In response to holistic massage therapy? posted by JenniferMiner:

Hi Jen,

Some types of massage can invigorate versus relax us such as sports massage or massage that uses percussion-style techniques. Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes that can literally put you to sleep. Everyone has a different response to massage therapy. Some people find that they feel really tired immediately following a massage, but the next day they are on top of the world, whereas other people report feeling completely energized after the massage.

I think the effect has more to do with the individual and their particular health condition than it does the treatment. If you are a very anxious person, you will probably find a decrease in anxiety after a massage. If you are really hyper, you may find yourself slowing down.

Just as an aside, hot stone massage is a good alternative for those who can't tolerate deep pressure.

Hope that answered your question.:)
